Bits And Chips Comics 2015

In Italia la satira è ormai indissolubilmente legata alla Politica ed al Costume. Fare satira su qualcosa d'altro è pressapoco impossibile, ed in pochi tentano questa impresa. Con questo libro, una raccolta di vignette realizzate da Carlo Vena, vogliamo dimostrare che non è così, e che si può ridere di gusto anche - come in questo caso - del mondo Informatico, delle aziende che vi operano e degli utenti, i così detti geek o smanettoni. Naturalmente, siamo consapevoli che molti degli argomenti che abbiamo trattato potrebbero non essere conosciuti da buona parte dei lettori, e proprio per questo a fianco di ogni vignetta è presente un commento esplicativo, al fine di rendere tutto più chiaro.

I'm here to present you with the first book of Bits And Chips, a collection of comics drawn by Carlo Vena – a professional cartoonist – during 2015. Outside Italy there are a lot of geek comics - “Dilbert” by Scott Adams, “Ctrl+Alt+Del” by Tim Buckley, and so on -, but in Italy this kind of comics are extremely rare. So a few of you could say: “What's new, here?”. Indeed you could be right, but there a couple of peculiarities with this book, in my opinion. Firstly, Carlo goes beyond the simple comic strip: he draws satiric outspoken cartoons about the big companies. In the second place, Carlo is the only one cartoonist in Italy that deals with these topics. So from my point of view, it's a work to be proud of.
Also, in order to reach the largest audience that possible, we have decided to do a double translation: Italian and English. Why? Probably because in Italy we pair the Satire with the Politics topics, at most with the Customs topics. So, from our point of view, this book is a gamble. In Italy we have almost no market: few people speak English, and even fewer know the IT world. Some of my friends have a Degree in Computer Engineering, yet they failed to understand most of the comics. So, why do we have to limit the spread of this book?
In conclusion, I hope that you enjoy reading this experimental book.
