The Virtues Of Heifer Verses. Surah Al-Baqarah sentence 11-20 (Tafsir Al-Quran (surah Al-Baqarah) Book 3) (English Edition)

Reading Al-Quran is easy to understand. When we know the translation and asbabbunnuzul (why, where and when the verses revealed) its more useful for us to understand and really to appreciated the verses and express the truly love from our heart to our creator.

In essence the commentators agree that the (work) means that the welfare of all forms of obedience to God. But what kind of devotion is said (do) in this verse? The interpretors have different opinions. (Do good) in this verse is the faith of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w, in his religion and its teachings. Meanwhile, according to Ibn Juraij is prayer and fasting. Now according to Al-Saddi is obidient to Allah. According to Qatadah is to practice doing
good deeds.

Although the interpretors have different opinions on the meaning of words (do good) in this verse, according to At-Tabari, all agree that this verse is the criticism for the nation (Israel) and people everywhere, including Muslims who encourage others to follow the words and actions that blessed by Allah, but they forget themselves. Therefore according to Ibn Juraij is proper for the callers to practice the good in advance themselves.

The word (Have you no sense) at the end of this sentence is actually reprimanded for the Nations of Israel, because they ask others to do the right thing but they did not practising it. They prohibited others from the wrongdoings but they themselves practising it.

They called upon people to believe the prophet Muhammad and his quran, but they themselves reject. Do not they realize how bad the act is.

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that this verse was descended in respect to a group of Jews in Medina. Among them are some who says to their siblings, relatives and brotherhood from the Muslims so that they remain in the religion of Muhammad that they have belief and obey. They ask others to do the right thing, but they do not do it themselves (Lubabun Nuqul: 9)

According to At-Tabari this verse is a continuation of the previous verses, a rememberance to nation of Israel that they remember the many blessings they have received from Allah SWT. Among the favors of Allah is when He saved them from Pharaoh's tyranny, also when He splitted the sea for them.

This verse explains that Pharaoh and his army pursued Moses and his people consisting of 12 tribes. Then they stuck beside the sea and they saw the approaching of Pharaoh army. They said that the Pharaoh would have followed them.

But Allah has saved them by splitting the sea into 12 streets and drowned Pharaoh and his army
in the sea.

As for the meaning (while you watch) is that the nation of Israel has seen themselves how Allah split the sea for them and how Pharaoh drown in the same sea. They see themselves how superior Allah is, when the sea obey Allah in order to prepare the way for them and they see how the ocean is split into a wave rolls high.

Through this verse Allah reminds the nation of Israel not to falsifying the prophet Muhammad so as to avoid punishment as what happen to Pharaoh and his army because they rejected Musa a.s.
